This week's "Blast from the Past" is Lane Spiker who was a former star at Doniphan West.
Spiker completed his senior season as the punter for Washburn University. This season in 12 games, Spiker had 36 punts for an average of over 37 yards per punt and he also had five punts travel for more than 50 yards.
He had a career long punt of 73 yards against Nebraska-Kearney which is the fifth longest punt in school history.
Spiker earned All-MIAA Honorable Mention honors this season. Last year’s season was cancelled but Spiker was named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
In the 2019 season, Spiker earned 2nd Team MIAA honors averaging over 40 yards per punt with nine punts traveling more than 50 yards. His net punting was good for 7th in the nation that season.
His average of 40.8 yards per punt in 2019 is good for 8th on the Icabod single season list.
