Former Hiawatha Red Hawk, Jordan Puvogel Continuing Her Running Career

A strong running career in high school as a Hiawatha Red Hawk led to an opportunity in college and Jordan Puvogel is making the best of it competing in cross country and track and field for Pittsburg State University.

Puvogel now a sophomore at Pitt State got into the swing of college competition fully this year as she competed in just one race as a freshman in cross country (50th place at Southern Missouri Stampede – 18:56.13 out of 226 runners). The Sophomore opened the cross country season this year with a 45th place finish posting out of 193 runners at the Southern Missouri Stampede posting a time of 19:10.72 helping the lady Gorillas earn second as a team.

The former Red Hawk most recently was off and running at the NCAA Regional competition with Pitt State in Sioux Falls, South Dakota racing to a finish of 71st place behind a time of 22:37.80 competing against 210 other runners on the day. The lady Gorillas notched a fifth place team performance out of 14 teams at Regionals.

Jordan also on the year raced to a 24th place finish out of 91 runners at the MIAA Championship posting a time of 23:08.04, while Pitt State took second as a team. She also raced at the Fort Hays Open (54th place – 18:33.99) and the Roy Griak Invite in Minnesota (119th place – 25:39.1).

In high school of course Puvogel won multiple State titles between cross country and track and field as a Hiawatha Red Hawk. Jordan as a sophomore on the 3A cross country State title in 2012, while then finishing second in 2013 as the team took third and her senior year placing fourth as the Red Hawks finished second as a team. Her senior campaign in track and field closed out with a 3A State title in the 4x800 meter relay with her teammates, along with second place finishes in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs and third in the 800 meter run, while as a junior she won the 3A 3200 meter run.

Puvogel is off and running now in full force to her college career now and is set to compete for the Gorilla track and field team this year also for the Pitt State Gorillas as she continues to work hard both out of the classroom and in it being named to the MIAA All-Academic team with a 3.62 GPA.
