Austin Gerety
|
It has been a season to remember for the Barton Community College baseball team which has won 33 games so far this season including five of their last six.
In that recent stretch it’s been a big run for former Nemaha Central Thunder Austin Gerety who launched a grand slam against Cloud County last week for his first collegiate home run.
Gerety is making the most of his recent opportunities, hitting .385 in just 15 games with a .571 on-base percentage along with six RBIs, four runs scored, and six walks compared to just three strikeouts in 21 plate appearances.
On the mound he has also thrown 5.1 innings allowing just six hits, no earned runs, and six strikeouts compared to four walks.
This comes after a strong career at Nemaha Central where he was named an all-state selection as a senior and a first team all-Big 7 League selection three times.
Gerety will look to continue his recent success at Barton and potentially contribute to a deep postseason run as the Cougars are set to open region play this Thursday against Coffeyville.
