Since the beginning of the 2019-20 school year, former Sabetha Bluejay Alex Edelman has been working towards his master’s degree in athletic training and has excelled as a graduate assistant for the Peru State Bobcats.
Edelman, a May 2019 graduate of Washburn University in Topeka, Kan., began his work last fall under the direction of Bobcat head athletic trainer Brent Melvin and athletic trainer Vickie Sheley.
Sheley commented, “Alex has been able to seamlessly step into his role as a graduate athletic trainer at Peru State. His knowledge of athletic injuries and his ability to care for those injuries in his athletes is a great benefit.”
Continuing Sheley noted, “We are excited that Alex is a part of our athletic training department. We look forward to having him here to care for the medical needs of our student-athletes over the next 15 months while he completes his master’s degree.”
Edelman had a variety of experiences while earning his bachelor of science in athletic training from Washburn.
He had two stints with the Ichabods’ football and men’s basketball teams.
In addition, he spent a semester each with the women’s soccer and softball teams. Edelman also did some work with the Topeka West High School Chargers in the spring of 2017.
For two summers, Edelman worked the Gatorade camps hosted by Washburn. In addition, he assisted with the daily learning activities as a group leader for the YWCA in Topeka.
Some of his volunteer experience includes assisting with the National Junior College Athletic Association Half Marathon, the Topeka West High School wrestling tournament, and the Wyandotte County Youth soccer tournament.
Edelman stated, “My time at Peru State has been amazing thus far and I am very excited to be here. I have loved getting to know and work with the student-athletes and my co-workers at the College.”
Edelman and his wife Kalli reside in Lincoln.
