The Allen County Community College volleyball team is in the midst of the programs best run this season and of recent years as the Red Devils have won five consecutive matches and are off to a 15-10 start to the year.
That strong start comes just a year after Allen County volleyball went just 6-26 and a big reason to the success of the Red Devils has been the play of former Atchison Lady Red and freshman Mattie Dougherty.
Doughtery, in just her first season at the college level, has fit right in and is currently tied for the team lead for the most matches played this season and is one of only three girls on the team to play in all 25 matches.
She currently ranks third on the team in digs with 219 and is averaging nearly three digs per set while posting 16 kills and 10 aces as well.
Dougherty went to Allen County after a strong career at Atchison where she was named a first-team all-Kansas City-Atchison League selection her final three seasons.
In her senior season she really shined, posting over 220 kills and over 275 digs while racking up 62 aces as well.
Dougherty will look to continue her strong freshman season and help lead the Red Devils to a winning record with just six matches remaining in the regular season.
