Our newest Blast from the Past athlete presented by the Netawaka Fitness Center is former Holton Wildcat Jake Riederer who is in his redshirt senior season for the Washburn Ichabod football team.
Riederer, a standout offensive lineman in high school, has helped the Ichabods off to a 1-1 start this season and has played in 35 games for Washburn and started 30.
He was named an all-MIAA honorable mention selection after last season where he helped anchor an offensive line that allowed just 13 sacks and had the No. 4 passing offense in the conference at 243 yards per game.
In 2017 he started 10 of 12 games on the offensive line and was named offensive lineman of the week for the Ichabod’s once.
Riederer is a three-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and tranferred to Washburn after originally attending Missouri State.
At Holton he was a two-star prospect his senior season and was an all-state selection after leading the Wildcats to a 12-1 year in 2013 which was one year after leading Holton to an undefeated 14-0 Class 4A state title in 2012.
He was part of a 26-game win streak at Holton and has football in his blood with his father Russ playing and coaching for Kansas State and coaching at Purdue along with Green Bay and Chicago in the NFL. His brother Rob also has a strong football background after playing college ball at Tulsa and now currently serving as the Tennessee Titans scouting coordinator.
Riederer will look to follow in his family’s footsteps and try to lead Washburn to a strong final season as the Ichabods continue the 2019 season Saturday hosting Fort Hays State University with kickoff at 1 p.m.
