Centralia, Onaga, Wetmore Compete in Track & Field at Onaga Invite

Centralia Panthers dominated in quad track and field competition between three Twin Valley League schools in Centralia, Wetmore and Onaga and Mission Valley.

The Panthers boys and girls squad each won the team crown for the meet by at least 25 points. On the boys side Centralia tallied 112 total points for first place, while Onaga finished second with 87 points, Mission Valley third with 39 points and Wetmore fourth with 29 points. For the girls the lady Panthers registered 100 total points good for the first place finish, while Onaga and Mission Valley tied for second with 55 points and Wetmore took fourth just behind the two second place teams with 53 points.

For the boys competition two Centralia Panthers athletes highlighted the day with multiple event crowns on the day. Lukas Koch continued his dominance in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs registering wins in both competitions. Koch posted a time of 5:00.77 in the 1600, 20 seconds better than second place and won the 3200 with a time of 9:57.68, nearly two minutes better than second place. But, perhaps the best performance of the day on the boys side came at the hands of Brett Burdiek who won three events, sweeping the hurdles and winning the high jump. Burdiek race to times of 16.78 and 45.78 to win the 110 and 300 meter hurdles competitions and leapt a height of 5-10 to win the high jump.

Fellow Panthers, Darrian Turner, Wyatt Van Dorn and Cody Huerter all won events, also. Turner spirited to the win in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.37, while Van Dorn won the 200 meter dash behind a time of 24.56. Huerter took home the crown in the pole vault, vaulting his way to a win with a vault of 11-6.

The Onaga Buffaloes boys squad was highlighted by a pair of relay wins in the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays, registering times of 3:53.31 and 10:02.83 to earn wins. While, Wyatt Cordell dashed his way to a win in the 400 meter dash to the tune of a time of 54.15. In the field events both Mychal Kolterman and Kyle Bliss took home first place finishes winning the shot put and long jump. Kolterman tossed his way to the win in the shot put with a toss of 41-10 and Bliss leapt 20-1 to win the long jump.

Wetmore picked up a pair of event wins on the day as Layne Hodge won both the 800 meter dash (2:25.53) and the triple jump (36-4).

On the girls side, Centralia took home the team crown behind five first place finishes with Chelsea Huerter leading the way with wins in the 200 meter dash (29.52) and the pole vault (7-0). Huerter, was joined by Mayda Stallbaumer with multiple event wins for the Panthers, as she won the 800 and 3200 meter runs with times of 2:43.72 and 14:40.59. Julia Klute and Tara Bergman also won events for the lady Panthers on the day as Klute captured the the 1600 meter run (6:19.91) and Bergman won the shot put (33-10.75). Centralia's 4x800 meter relay team also captured first place with a time of 11:28.57 by Blair Burdiek, Klute, Malori Koch and Kennedy Korpi.

While the Panthers had five first place finishes the best individual performance on the day in the girls competition came at the hands of Wetmore Cardinal, Dana Kramer who took home the 100 meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump titles. Kramer raced to a time of 16.51 in the 100 meter hurdles for the win, while having leaps of 14-8 and 30-3.25 in the long jump and triple jump for wins. Fellow, Cardinal Alisha Heitz also won an event on the day, as she tossed her way to the discus throw title with a 93-6 toss.

The lady Buffaloes of Onaga took home four first place finishes with a pair of wins in the relays. The team of Deborah Ames, Bethany Glessner, Jocelyn Marten and Destiny Schwant won the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 56.21, while Ames, Glessner and Marten partnered up with Cheyenne Brunkow to win the 4x400 relay, registering a time of 4:51.36. Marten also won the high jump crown on the day, while Glessner captured the 400 meter dash title, too. Marten leapt to the tune of 4-8 to win the high jump, while Glessner registered a time of 1:08.48 to win the 400 meter dash.
