By Mike Smith

Postseason basketball honors continue to be handed out as Kansas-Sports.com has handed out All-State and All-Class honors for high school boys basketball across the state.

Eleven area athletes and one area coach garnered honors for their performances this past year on the basketball court.

Nemaha Valley senior, Creighton Brinker was the only local player to earn All-State honors which recognizes the top players in all classes together. Brinker was named to the third team All-State squad after helping the Raiders to a 24-2 record and a third place finish in Class 3A state tournament this season, while also winning a share of the Big Seven league title for the second straight year. Brinker posted 14.9 ppg, 7.7 rpg and 3.1 bpg for the Raiders, as he lead the Big Seven league in scoring and blocks.

For the All-Class honors each classification for the area had at least two players earn second team honors or better from Kansas-Sports.com. Starting off with Class 4A, it was the Holton Wildcats highlighting things for area honorees, as seniors, Trent Tanking and Tyler Burdiek both registered second team All-Class honors. Tanking and Burdiek helped the Wildcats to a 17-5 record on the season and a share of the Big Seven league title for the second straight year. Trent posted a stat line of 13 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 2.3 apg and 1.1 spg this season, while Burdiek lead the team in scoring with 14.5 ppg and added 3 rpg, 3.5 apg and 2 spg this year.

In Class 3A, Brinker earned first team All-Class honors for his performance this season for the Raiders, all while being a part of the Raiders six straight fourth place or better performances at state. Brinker's, senior Raider teammate, Trent Olberding grabbed a second team honor in Class 3A. Olberding this season was the floor general for the Raiders and posted 12.1 ppg on the season while shooting 50% from the floor and 37% from three-point land.

ACCHS Tiger senior, Jacob Hansen helped the Tigers dominate the Delaware Valley league for the second straight year as the Tigers finished regular season play for the second straight season with an unbeaten record and capped off the year with a 22-1 record, falling in the sub-state championship. Hansen was a stat sheet stuffer on the season with the following numbers: 13.8 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 3 apg, 2.9 spg and 1.6 bpg.

A pair of DVL seniors in Valley Falls Dragon, Luke Burns and Jefferson County North Charger, Jacob GrandPre both earned second team All-Class 2A honors from Kansas-Sports.com. Burns helped the Dragons to a 16-5 record this season in the DVL, all while earning first team All-DVL honors. GrandPre helped lead the Chargers to the Class 2A state tournament for the second straight season, as JCN finished the year 17-7 and Jacob earned All-DVL honors.

Class 1A was highlighted the Twin Valley League, one of the best smaller school leagues in Kansas. The Class 1A-Division II state champion, Axtell Eagles highlighted honors with Head Coach, Lucus Dalinghaus earned 1A-DII Coach of the Year honors. Dalinghaus and the Eagles capped off a storybook year with a 19-8 record winning the Class 1A-DII state title and finishing a perfect 12-0 in tournament games this season.

A pair of Eagles in senior, Aaron Schmelzle and junior, Payton Heinen were key guys on that Axtell team and both earned first team All-Class 1A honors. Schmelzle finished the year posting double figure points in all but three games this season to the tune of a 15 ppg average, while grabbing 6.2 rpg and adding 2.1 apg and 1.2 spg this season. Heinen was a game changer all season for the Eagles like Schmelzle and this teammates to the tune of 15.2 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 3.4 bpg, 1.9 apg and 1.2 spg, while posting a near triple-double against Frankfort this season as his best game (33 pts, 13 reb and 7 blocks).

Fellow TVL players in Frankfort Wildcat senior, Calahan Brown and Centralia Panther junior, Sam Steinlage both earned All-Class 1A honors, also, grabbing second team honors. For Brown he helped the Wildcats to a 14-8 record this season after state championship last season; Brown posted a double figure average in points this season close to 15 points per game.  Steinlage lead the Panthers of the Centralia on the season who for the second straight made the Class 1A-DI state tournament and this season capped off their year with a third place finish and a 20-6 record. Sam lead the Panthers with a 15.1 ppg and 7.2 rpg average on the season.

It was another great basketball season for Northeast Kansas high schools and Kanzaland area teams and players.
