On Thursday afternoon, the Rossville Bulldawgs faced off against the Frankfort Wildcats at the Class 2-1A State Baseball Tournament in Manhattan. Both teams, having previously lost in the semifinals, were vying for a third-place finish.

The game, which experienced delays due to inclement weather, got underway at Tointon Family Stadium. Rossville struck first in the third inning, taking a 2-0 lead with a decisive RBI double from Canaan Mitchell, followed by an RBI single from Cale Horak.

Rossville's starting pitcher, Cameron Miller, showcased his talent throughout the game. Despite issuing three walks in the fourth inning, Miller managed to escape a bases-loaded situation by striking out the next two batters, maintaining the Bulldawgs' lead.

The momentum shifted dramatically in the sixth inning as the rain intensified. With two outs and a runner on base, Rossville launched an astounding rally, sending 12 batters to the plate and scoring nine runs. Key contributions included Mitchell's three-run triple, while Conner Bush and Jakoby McDonnell added RBIs. Frankfort’s defense also faltered during the inning with wild pitches, passed balls, and a couple of errors that contributed to Rossville's scoring barrage.

Frankfort managed to put one run on the board in the bottom of the sixth when Wes Anderson scored on a wild pitch. However, they needed one more run to extend the game into the seventh inning. Ultimately, the run-rule victory was secured by Rossville, clinching third place in the Class 2-1A tournament.

Miller performed brilliantly, pitching all six innings for Rossville and allowing just one run on one hit, along with three walks and an impressive 12 strikeouts. On the other side, Colten Caffrey pitched into the sixth inning for Frankfort, giving up six hits, four walks, and recording two strikeouts.

With this victory, Rossville capped off their 2026 season with an overall record of 25-5, while Frankfort concluded their season at 24-5.
