The Doniphan West baseball team won a thriller on Monday afternoon at Riverside by a final score of 4-3 in nine innings.
Riverside jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-RBI single from Gavin Schoenfelder.
Kobe Koehler got the start for the Cyclones and took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but the Mustangs were finally able to get on the board.
They tied the game thanks to back-to-back RBI singles by Kolter Peterson and Hayden Paolino.
The game remained tied at 2-2 after seven with both teams scoring one run in the eighth inning. The Mustangs got an RBI single from Paulino and the Cyclones responded with an RBI single by Chase Hewins.
In the ninth, Doniphan West got the go-ahead run on a fielders choice off the bat of Breckan Falk.
Riverside got a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth from Grady Sigrist, but Keagan Hughes lined out to end the game.
Riverside would bounce back to win game two and split the doubleheader with a 6-5 win. The Cyclones are 13-5 while the Mustangs are 14-6 after the results.
