Boys Class 3A Sub-State Championship Game at Sabetha
(3) Perry-Lecompton 34
(2) Silver Lake 66
The Silver Lake boys put on an impressive display on both ends of the floor on Friday night cruising past the Kaws to advance back to the state tournament for a second straight season.
The Eagles would lead the Kaws 16-10 after the first quarter and 29-16 at halftime.
They would keep building the lead up in the second half and would ultimately put up a running clock in the fourth quarter with about three minutes left in the game.
Dayne Johnson, Silver Lake's all-time leading scorer, led the way for the Eagles as he finished with 20 points and eight rebounds. It was the 23rd time this season that Johnson scored at least 20 points.
Grady Bergmann also put together a big-time performance as he finished the game with 17 points and 14 rebounds. A good chunk of those rebounds came on the offensive end which led to second and even third chance opportunities for the Eagles.
The Eagles would outrebound the Kaws 35-14, would only turn the ball over seven times, and connected on 11-of-15 free throws.
The Kaws were led by Dayton Tucker who finished with 12 points while they got six points each from Houston Habiger and Kayden Baker.
Perry-Lecompton's senior class features Ronnie Baker, who was out all season with an injury, Ozzie Eardley, Dayton Tucker, Kolby Krein, Jacob O'Trimble, Kaleb Confer, and Ryland Freeman.
Krein broke the school record for threes made in a season while junior Easton Graves broke the single season assists record.
For Silver Lake, it's the 10th state appearance in school history and the first time since the early 80's that they've made consecutive trips to the state tournament.
The Eagles powered their way to a third-place finish at the state tournament last season and will look to finish even better than that in 2026.
