JCN Charger Boys End Season with Tough First Round Lost at State
By Mike Smith

For the second straight year the Jefferson County North Charger boys made the State tournament in Class 2A and were looking to make it out of the state tournament first round this year, unlike last year and the time at state before that back in 1999. The Chargers as the six seed at 17-6 took on the 20-3, third seeded Republic County and ran into a tough opponent and despite leading at the half the Chargers ended their season with 78-68 loss.

The game started off with a flurry as both teams poured in 20 points in the first quarter, then the Chargers pushed out to a one-point lead at halftime, 36-35, with JCN and Republic County accounting for 11 three-pointers together.

Coming out of the half Republic County used a 17-9 third quarter and gained the lead headed into the fourth quarter and wouldn't give it up, moving to the 78-68 win.

In the loss the Chargers were lead by four players in double figures with Luke Pyle leading the way with 19 points. Cory Noll, Jacob GrandPre and Shawn Lane each added double digits with 17, 14 and 12 points.

JCN ends their year with a 17-7 record with the loss in the first round at state, after making the state tournament for the second straight year.
