The Doniphan West girls basketball team are back in the state tournament, but this time it'll be in Class 2A.
The Mustangs won the 1A-I state title two seasons ago and this season they have qualified in the 2A ranks by beat Wabaunsee in the sub-state title game on Saturday night 39-35.
D-West, the #8 ranked team in 2A, defeated Pleasant Ridge 60-19 and Jackson Heights 52-30 in the first two rounds of the sub-state tournament.
Doniphan West started the season winning eight of their first nine games with the lone loss in that stretch against undefeated and #2 ranked in 1A-I Centralia.
They finished third place in the TVL mid-season tournament beating Valley Heights in that third place game.
They would follow that up with three straight wins before dropping three straight games to Centralia, Clifton-Clyde, and Hanover.
Since that loss to Hanover, the Mustangs have won five straight games heading into the state tournament in Manhattan.
The record heading to Bramlage Coliseum sits at 17-5 overall.
