The Silver Lake girls basketball team defeated Wellsville in Hiawatha on Friday night 58-25 to advance back to the Class 3A State Tournament in Hutchinson.
Silver Lake scored the first seven points of the game as they would dominate going wire-to-wire against Wellsville.
They would lead 21-9 at the end of the first quarter and they would outscore Wellsville 17-2 in the second quarter and would lead the game 38-11 at halftime.
The lead was 51-19 going into the fourth quarter which forced a running clock for the entire quarter.
Kailyn Hanni led Silver Lake with 20 points and six rebounds while adding some flashy assists and multiple steals. Freshman Karys Deiter finished with 10 points while Ella Bolan finished with eight points.
Silver Lake outrebounded Wellsville 29-22 and would connect on 11-of-15 free throws while also knocking down five three-pointers.
Silver Lake's win against Wellsville was their 11th straight victory with their only two losses coming against 1A-I #2 Centralia and 3A #5 Riley County.
In their first season in the new Big East league, Silver Lake went 9-1 in league play finishing second behind only Riley County who went undefeated in league play.
The defending champs will look to go back-to-back as they went a perfect 26-0 last season on their way to the title.
It's Silver Lake's fifth consecutive trip to the state tournament and they will head to Hutchinson with an overall record of 21-2.
