The Atchison boys basketball team advanced to their third straight Class 4A State Tournament defeating Wamego at home on Friday night 71-51 in the Sub-State Title game.
The Phoenix defeated Paola 47-44 in the opening round earlier in the week before knocking off the Red Raiders on Friday night.
Atchison played a difficult schedule throughout the season that featured Highland Park in the Meadowlark Conference who is the top team in Class 5A.
After dropping their first game of the season to 6A Junction City, the Phoenix would rattle off five straight wins before dropping their second game against KC Washington.
They would finish second place at the Tonganoxie Invitational losing to Eudora in the title game. They would drop back-to-back games after that to Highland Park and Lafayette (MO).
They would go on a five game winning streak after that before losing back-to-back games against Highland Park and KC Washington.
Atchison will head to Salina for the 4A State Tournament which will be held March 12-15 at the Tony's Pizza Event Center.
