East Tops West in Shrine Bowl for First Win Since 2018

The 51st Kansas Shrine Bowl game was played on Saturday at Welch Stadium in Emporia with the East defeating the West 36-25. 

For the East it was their first win against the West since 2018. 

Blue Valley Southwest quarterback Dylan Dunn completed 25-of-33 passes for 307 yards and four touchdowns and was named the Gary Spani Award Winner (East MVP). He broke Shrine Bowl records for completions, passing yards, and touchdowns. 

Area athletes representing the East included Axtell’s Sawyer Deters, Holton’s Dalton Roush, Sabetha’s Joshua Grimm, Atchison’s Jeter Purdy, Nemaha Central’s Holden Bass, and Jefferson County North’s RB Tweed.

Purdy caught two passes for 22 yards and punted three times averaging nearly 35 yards per punt including a punt that traveled 69 yards. Tweed recorded two tackles and a forced fumble. Roush recorded a tackle and Bass tallied a pass breakup and quarterback hit.
