Harrison gives up 4 runs in Rangers' loss

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) - Matt Harrison gave up four runs before being lifted in the first inning of the Texas Rangers' 7-5 loss to the Kansas City Royals on Sunday.

 

An 18-game winner last year, Harrison threw 40 pitches as the Royals batted around. He allowed six hits, including Alcides Escobar's RBI triple.

 

Royals starter Luis Mendoza, the Caribbean Series MVP, allowed one run on four hits in four innings.

 

The Rangers tied the score at 5 on Leury Garcia's two-run homer in the sixth inning.

 

Xavier Nady and Brett Hayes stroked RBI singles in the eighth and ninth innings to put the Royals on top.

 

Salvador Perez went 3 for 3 with a double and scored a pair of runs for the Royals.
