KWCA Release Latest Rankings (Feb. 12th) as Regionals Loom this Weekend

As Regionals loom on the horizon this weekend for wrestlers across the state of Kansas the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association has released its latest set of rankings. For the area wrestlers it was much of the same in the latest KWCA rankings as nothing changed for the rankings of area wrestlers. This week all the wrestlers ranked last week remained ranked and without change to their respective positions in the rankings in the weight classes. 

Class 4A, continues to be highlighted by the Big Seven league for the area wrestlers ranked as Holton, Jeff West and Royal Valley continue to have wrestlers ranked. Wildcats lead the way with five individuals ranked after the league tournament weekend were all five guys capture league titles and helped Holton to a team Big Seven wrestling title. Both Lane Lassiter (145lbs) and Hunter Price (120lbs) won Big Seven individual titles for the third time in their careers, while Lucas Lovvorn (138lbs), Andrew Rieschick (160lbs) and Cooper Zeller (285lbs) each won individual Big Seven titles, too. Lassiter, Rieschick and Zeller all remained ranked fifth in their weight classes while Price and Lovvorn both remained at sixth in their weight class.

Jeff West Tigers, Tucker Schreiner (106lbs) and Justin Scott (220lbs) both won Big Seven league individual titles over the weekend and remained ranked sixth and first, respectively in their weight classes. Scott is our current "Athlete of the Week" and establishing a great season with a perfect 32-0 record thus far, as he tries to repeat as regional champion this weekend and make it back too state.

Royal Valley Panther, Tanner Ogden remained ranked at number four in the 152lbs weight class after winning the 152lb weight class at the Big Seven League tournament, winning this third league title in his high school career.

In Class 3A and under everything stayed the same also this week headed into Regionals. Marysville and ACCHS both as teams remained ranked seventh and eighth in the latest KWCA team rankings. Both teams continually have been highlighted by three individuals in the rankings throughout the season. For Marysville, freshman, Chris Deters remained number one in the 106lbs weight class while seniors, Josh Goepfert and James Landoll rank second and fifth in the weight classes of 113 and 138lbs.

The Tigers are lead by sophomore, Logan Bowen who won a DVL league title at 120lbs and ranks number one in his weight class. Willy Dieckmann (126lbs) and Taylor Schuetz (160lbs) both won DVL individual crowns over the weekend, too as they both remained stead fast at number four and five in their weight class. The top performances by the Tigers helped ACCHS win the final DVL wrestling league title as a team.

Onaga, Pleasant Ridge, Doniphan West and Sabetha all continue to have one wrestler ranked this week, too all at the same spot. For the Buffaloes, Mychal Kolterman checked in at number five in the heavyweight division this week. Jared Johnson of Pleasant Ridge remained number one at 170lbs while winning this fourth DVL individual championship this past weekend. Doniphan West Mustang, Tristan Speer checked in number three in the 195lbs weight class winning that weight class at the DVL league tournament, while Tyler Edelman of Sabetha ranks fourth in the 195lbs weight class.
