KBCA Releases Latest Rankings --- February 12th

With only a few games left of the regular season things are starting to take shape in league races and seedings for postseason play across the state. Kansas Basketball Coaches Association has released the new set of basketball rankings and as far as area teams in the latest polls it's very similar to last week's polls.

This week the total of area teams actually falls from 15 down one to 14 as the lady Bluejays of Sabetha fall out of the Class 3A rankings. While the 14 ranked all were in the rankings last week and saw little movement this week between them. (Full Feb. 11 KBCA rankings -- click here)

In Class 4A its much of the same for area teams as the lady Wildcats of Holton are the only are team ranked and remained ranked number one this week with a 16-1 record on the season, having not loss since the season opener.

Class 3A features the same three area teams ranked this week, also as both the ACCHS Tiger girls and boys teams remained ranked with Nemaha Valley boys, too. On the boys side the Tigers remained ranked fourth in the rankings after another 2-0 week to improve to 17-0 on the season, while Nemaha Valley suffered their first loss of the year but bounced back to cruise past Perry Lecompton to be 16-1 on the season and remain ranked second.

On the girls side the lady Tigers of ACCHS stood pat as well in the rankings this week checking in at number eight again with their 15-2 record on the season.

Class 2A, continues to be highlighted by only area girls teams in the rankings as the Washington County Tigers and Jefferson County North Chargers continue to win this season. Washington County as they have been a majority of the season remained number one in the rankings, having yet to loss on the season as they are 16-0 on the year. While, Jefferson County North improved to 15-2 on the season with a 2-0 week and have won 13 straight games, to move up one spot to number three this week.

Four Twin Valley League teams highlight the Class 1A-Division II rankings as both the girls and boys Valley Heights teams are ranked and the boys teams of Centralia and Hanover continued to be ranked, also. For the Mustangs the ladies they remained at number five this week with a 13-4 record this season and the boys stood pat at number six in the latest polls with an 11-6 record.

Both Centralia boys like Valley Heights didn't move in the polls coming in at number five again this week while going 1-1 last week. The Hanover Wildcats slipped down a spot in the polls from number eight to number nine this week, while also going 1-1 last week to move to 12-5 on the season.

In Class 1A-Division II the B&B Falcons have highlighted the polls for the area for quite a bit of the season as both the boys and girls teams went 2-0 last week to improve upon their records this season. The lady Falcons who improved to 15-3 on the season remained at number four in the polls, while the B&B boys improved to 13-5 on the year and took the largest leap of any area team in the polls up to number five from number eight.

A pair of TVL teams join the Falcons in the rankings as they did last week as the Frankfort lady Wildcats and the Axtell Eagles boys both continue to be ranked. For, Frankfort they have hit a of a rough patch going 1-3 last week and fell in the rankings from number seven to nine, but did remain in the rankings with their 11-7 record. The Axtell Eagle boys lost a pair of tough fought games last week to fall to 10-8 on the season and remained ranked tenth in the polls.
