KWCA Releases New State Wrestling Rankings -- Feb. 5th

League tournaments and regionals are on the horizon and wrestlers have their sights set on great performances with a bid to the state tournament on their minds. As has been the case all season many area wrestlers continue to be ranked and a pair of teams, also.

Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association has released its latest set of rankings and it includes 18 individual wrestlers and two teams.

In Class 4A, three schools have continually highlighted the rankings all season with at least one wrestler ranked all year long. The Holton Wildcats who has a team have been ranked at times this season continue to have five wrestlers ranked in the latest set of rankings. Three wrestlers check in at number five in their respective weight classes this week as Lane Lassiter (145lbs), Andrew Rieschick (160lbs) and Cooper Zeller (285lbs) all ranked in that spot. Lucas Lovvorn (138lbs) and Hunter Price (120lbs) both remained in the rankings this week also for the Wildcats as they both check in at number six this week in their weight classes.

The Jeff West Tigers continue to have a pair of wrestlers ranked with Justin Scott leading the way as he as done all season in the 220lbs weight class. Scott is unbeaten on the season and gearing up for action in the Big Seven league tournament on the horizon. Freshman, Tucker Schreiner also remained ranked this week checking in at number six in the 106lbs weight class. Royal Valley Panther, Tanner Ogden also remains ranked this week coming in at number four again this week in the 152lbs weight class.

In Class 3A, the Marysville Bulldogs and ACCHS Tigers continue to highlight the rankings as both teams remained ranked this week coming in at number seven and eight, respectively in the top 10. Both schools have been lead by a trio of wrestlers in the ranks for the past weeks and that trend continues this week with those wrestlers remaining in the rankings and making some moves in the top six in each weight class.

For Marysville, Freshman Chris Deters made the largest leap of the week from any area wrestler jumping up to number one in the latest polls in the weight class of 106lbs. Seniors, Josh Goepfert and James Landoll both have been staples in the rankings all year and remained in the rankings this week at number two and number five, respectively in the weight classes of 113lbs and 138lbs.

ACCHS has been lead by a senior and pair of sophomore's in the rankings and that continued this week with sophomore, Logan Bowen making a move up to number one in 120lbs weight class. Sophomore, Willy Dieckmann remained fourth in the 126lbs weight class, while senior, Taylor Schuetz checked in number five in the 160lbs weight class.

Sabetha, Doniphan West, Onaga and Pleasant Ridge all continue to have at least one wrestler ranked this season. For the Bluejays and Mustangs their ranked wrestler hails from the 195lbs weight class as Tyler Edelman of Sabetha ranks fourth and Tristan Speer of Doniphan West comes in at third. Onaga Buffalo senior, Mychal Kolterman remained ranked in the 285lbs weight class as he ranks fifth this week, while Pleasant Ridge Ram senior, Jared Johnson continues to hold on to the top spot in the 170lbs weight class.
