By Mike Smith

Girls -- Wetmore 32, Troy 24

Boys -- Troy 55, Wetmore 50

Girls

It was a tight ball game down to the wire and Wetmore used a Troy turnover and clutch free throws to cement themselves into a road victory, 32-24. After the first quarter Wetmore held a one-point lead 10-9, then the second period came and neither team could score as Wetmore won the quarter 1-0 and lead 11-9 at the half.

The game was filled with turnovers by both teams and that trend continued in the second half with the teams picking up the scoring but still a low scoring affair. Cardinals extended their lead to three after the third quarter and then used a 14-9 fourth period to put the Trojans away for the win.

For the Cardinals of Wetmore they were lead by senior, Alayna Noe who tallied 12 points and was the only player in the game to reach the double figure plateau. Senior, Jordan Evans chipped in eight points, while Amber Meggison and Dana Kramer each added five points.

Troy was lead by senior, Kelli Marriott who tallied nine points in the ball game, while junior, Alaine Stock and senior, Claire Turpin each added four points.

With the win, Wetmore improved to 9-6 on the season and looks to continue their season with another win tonight against Hanover. For Troy, they fell to 9-5 on the season, with only their second loss since the holiday break. The Lady Trojans look to get back in the win column as they host Horton tonight.

Boys

It was a fast start for Wetmore on the road who pushed out to a 12-2 and 14-4 lead and had a 14-8 first quarter advantage before heading to the locker room up 23-17 at the half. But a big third quarter, 20-9 by Troy, and some turnovers by Wetmore, allowed the Trojans to gain the lead in the second half and earn the tough win, 55-50.

It was a basic stalemate between the teammates for the contest as both teams were 14-17 from the free throw line and both made their respective runs in the ball game.

Both teams were also lead by three players in double figures on the night. Troy in the win was lead by sophomore, Jake Ross who scored 16 points, six of which came in the fourth quarter as he tallied crucial steals in the third also to help seal the game for Troy.
