KBCA Releases Latest Rankings --- January 28th

As midseason tournament basketball is in the books and teams focus on the next few weeks before sub-state action the latest set of rankings by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association. This week's rankings for Kanzaland area teams doesn't look to different than last week's rankings with most teams staying put in the rankings, with one new team from the area in the rankings.

Starting off with a look at the Class 1A-Division II rankings as all four teams form the area that were ranked last week remained ranked this week. On the boys side the B&B Falcons remained at sixth in the rankings and the Axtell Eagles stood fast at number nine. B&B last week had a 2-1 week and improving too, 11-4 on the season. Axtell only suited up for one game this past week after winning the TVL tournament and fell to Frankfort in the game, as they are now 9-6 on the season.

On the girls side in Class 1A-Division II the Lady Falcons of B&B and the Lady Wildcats of Frankfort both remained in the rankings this week. For B&B they stood fast at number four after having a 2-1 week, with one win via a forfeit, then loss to Valley Heights and beat Blue Valley-Randolph; B&B now 12-3 on the season. Frankfort jumped up one spot this week to number seven after a 1-1 week with a road win over future TVL team, Doniphan West and a five-point road loss to Axtell; Frankfort moved to 9-4 on the season.

Class 1A-Division I was the class that saw the only new Kanzaland team jump in the rankings as the Hanover Wildcat boys jumped into the rankings this week at number eight with a 10-3 record. The Centralia Panthers and Valley Heights Mustangs both remained in the rankings on the boys side, both at number five and six, respectively like last week. Centralia improved to 9-4 on the season with wins over Wetmore and Linn last week, while Valley Heights is 9-4 on the season after wins over B&B and Clifton-Clyde.

On the girls side the Lady Mustangs remained in the rankings moving up two spots from number nine to number seven in the latest rankings, after a 2-0 week, improving to 10-3 on the season.

In Class 2A, two area teams are ranked and both are in the girls rankings. Washington County Lady Tigers remain unbeaten on the season with a 2-0 week, beating Linn and Onaga, improving too 14-0 on the season. The other area team is the Lady Chargers of Jefferson County North as they moved up one spot this week too number nine in the latest poll after winning their fifth straight home tournament, the JCN Invitational and now sit at 11-2 on the season.

Class 3A, this week again features the Nemaha Valley Raider boys and the ACCHS Tigers boys and girls squads again. On the boys side Nemaha Valley remained unbeaten on the season, 13-0 after beating Horton in their only game last week. For the ACCHS boys they too only played one game last week, beating Jeff West to remain unbeaten and also, 13-0. Both teams remained unbeaten and both remained at the same spot in the rankings with the Raiders at number two and the Tigers at number five.

For the Lady Tigers they slipped in the rankings down to number nine after suffering their second loss of the season after falling in the Jefferson County North Invitational championship game. Tigers are now 11-2 on the season.

In Class 4A, only one team is in the rankings and that team as been in the rankings all year, that's the Holton Wildcats who jumped to number one last week and remained there this week as they are 11-1 on the season.
