The Sabetha baseball team picked up two solid wins inside Big 7 league play on Thursday night at home over Jefferson West.
It was tight in game one with great pitching from both sides. The difference in the game was the Sabetha defense making some big plays and the Jeff West defense coming up with costly errors that allowed both Sabetha runs to cross home plate.
Sabetha got the first run of the game in the second inning as Jonathan Renyer scored from third after the ball went into center field when Jeff West was trying to throw a runner out at second base.
Sabetha would add their final run in the third inning with two outs after Tristan Wittwer reached on an error and scored after a Christian McAfee single and Nohl Niehues reaching on an error.
Jefferson West fought hard despite six errors in the game. The Tigers got their lone run in the fifth inning on an RBI groundout by Dalton Bateman.
The Tigers would have the tying run in scoring positions with one out in the seventh but were unable to score.
McAfee also pitched for Sabetha and went the distance going seven innings allowing just the one run on one hit with seven strikeouts.
The Bluejays would follow and win game two of the set by a final score of 7-4.
