The Centralia girls basketball season ended Saturday night in devastating fashion as the Panthers fall short of the State Championship, losing to Pretty Prairie in the Title game 37-35.
The game was back and forth from the jump and there was multiple lead changes early with the Panthers leading 13-12 at the end of the first quarter.
Pretty Prairie went on a 10-2 run and had multiple six point leads in the second quarter as the Bulldogs would lead it at halftime 24-21.
Both teams made defensive adjustments in the second half and both teams struggled to score as the offense was hard to come by.
The Panthers didn't get their first points in the second half until about halfway through the third quarter but would outscore the Bulldogs 7-5 in the quarter and trailed 29-28 going in the final quarter.
Just like the first quarter, the early portions of the fourth had multiple buckets and multiple lead changes.
Centralia would have a 35-34 lead with under 90 seconds left when Abigail White hit a deep three from straight on which gave the Bulldogs the 37-35 lead with just over a minute to go.
The Panthers would have great looks for the lead late from Avery and Oen Deters but both unable to connect.
The game got down to five seconds left with Pretty Prairie at the free throw line with a chance to ice the game with a one-and-one. Jorah Harbaugh missed the front end and Oen Deters' desparation heave from just inside halfcourt fell short to end the game.
The combination of Avery and Oen Deters was the key for Centralia tonight as they would score 33 of the team's 35 points. Avery had 17 while Oen finished with 16. The Panthers offense went cold against Pretty Prairie when it that was not the case in the first two games of the tournament.
Centralia finished the game 11 of 45 from the floor and four for 24 in the second half.
The Panthers season ends with a record of 25-1 and a runner-up finish in Dodge City.
Pretty Prairie takes home their first ever State Championship in girls basketball and they were led by McKenna Vogl who was the difference maker as she finished with a near triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and eight blocks.
Bulldogs also finish their season with a 25-1 record.
