Nemaha Central Sweeps Jefferson West on Tuesday Night
By Brandon Tadtman

The Nemaha Central Basketball teams picked up a pair of wins on Tuesday night at home against Jefferson West on Senior Night.

Girls: Jefferson West 27, Nemaha Central 30

This was a huge game in terms of the Big 7 league standings and potentially to determine the league champion this season.

The Thunder created a little separation from Jefferson West with this win and if they win out, they'll win their fifth straight league title.

This game was tight in the first half as it was tied at the end of the first quarter while the Thunder led 15-14 at halftime.

The Thunder defense was next level in the third quarter as they hold the Tigers scoreless and outscore them 8-0 to take a 23-14 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Tigers wouldn't go away as they scored the first four points in the fourth quarter and battled right back in it. Nemaha Central continued to play tight defense and made some clutch plays and free throws down the stretch to get the win.

Addy Holthaus led the way for the Thunder with 15 points and nine rebounds. Jefferson West was led by Kristin Biltoft with 13 points and four rebounds.

Nemaha Central have won six straight and are 14-4 overall and 10-2 in Big 7 league play while the Tigers drop to 12-6 overall and 9-4 in league play.

Boys: Jefferson West 28, Nemaha Central 65

The Thunder seemed very motivated after dropping their game last Friday to Royal Valley as they ripped off a 26-0 first quarter en route to a dominate win.

Jefferson West battled but the first quarter was too much to overcome as the Thunder led 40-12 at halftime and built a big enough lead at the end of the third quarter to force a running clock.

The Thunder got up and down the floor as they had six dunks in the ball game. Carter Lutz led the way with 15 points while Kurtis and Marcus Beck combined for 24 points and 18 rebounds.

Jefferson West was led by Gage Galle with eight points and four rebounds.

Thunder improve to 15-3 overall and 9-3 in Big 7 league play while the Tigers dropped to 0-16 and 0-13 in league play.

Up next for both, Jefferson West will host Riverside on Friday while Nemaha Central will travel to Holton.
