It was a split on Tuesday night in a TVL showdown between Troy and Wetmore. The Troy girls were victorious in game one while the Wetmore boys take down Troy in the nightcap.
Girls: Troy 51, Wetmore 33
Troy's defense led to plenty of offense in this game as they forced the Cardinals into 23 turnovers in the game.
Plus Paityn Engemann posted another strong night as she led the Trojans with 23 points, including 17 in the first half. She also had four rebounds and hit five of six from the free throw line.
Troy led 17-8 after one quarter but Wetmore battled and trailed by just six at halftime. Troy would outscore Wetmore 24-12 in the second half to put the game away.
Avery Euler was solid as well for Troy with a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Wetmore had to solid performances with Beatrice Sanzone and Kenzie Strathman. Despite the loss, Sanzone tallied 17 points and 10 rebounds while Strathman posted 14 points and 18 rebounds.
Troy improves to 7-10 overall and 5-4 in TVL play while Wetmore falls to 3-13 overall and 1-10 in TVL play.
Boys: Troy 38, Wetmore 50
This was a big win for Wetmore as the Trojans dropped their first league game of the season.
Offense was hard to come by for the most part but both teams had their spurts throughout the game.
Wetmore led 11-7 after the first quarter and they held Troy to just four points in the second quarter and the Cardinals led 23-11 at halftime.
Troy bounced back with a 10-4 advantage in the third quarter to get back to within six but Wetmore was able to keep the Trojans at arms length in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.
Braden Henry continues to post strong numbers as he led Wetmore with 22 points and five rebounds. Henry is averaging 19 points per game this season and averaging over 22 points per game since the TVL Tournament.
Eric Bloom was big with 15 points including a stretch in the fourth quarter with crucial baskets to keep his team out in front.
Troy was led by Jerrit Norris with 12 points and 11 rebounds despite not playing in the first quarter. Reagan Hartman added seven points as the Trojans top to 11-6 overall and 8-1 in TVL play.
Wetmore improves to 11-6 overall 7-4 in TVL.
Up next for both on Friday, Wetmore travels to Linn while Troy returns home to host Frankfort.
