Riverside traveled to Axtell on Friday night for a pair of ball games and it was the Cyclones who came out with two victories for the Big 7 over the Twin Valley League.
Girls: Riverside 49, Axtell 29
This game shifted towards the end of the first half as it was tight through the first 10 plus minutes of the game but the Cyclones turned a three point lead into an 11 point lead at halftime in the blink of an eye.
Riverside continued their stretch into the third quarter as they built their lead up to 23 points and were able to hold off the Eagles the rest of the game.
Taylor Weishaar led the way for Riverside with 14 points and 11 rebounds while Halle Studer added 10.
Axtell was led in scoring by Kaylee Sandmann with 11 points and seven rebounds.
Riverside improves to 6-7 with the win while Axtell drops to 3-10 with the loss.
Boys: Riverside 46, Axtell 33
This game was low scoring particularly in the first half as Riverside led 9-6 after the first quarter and extended that out to 23-14 at halftime.
The Eagles struggled in the third quarter to get points on the board as they scored just four third quarter points while the Cyclones could only tally seven in the third.
Defense and clutch free throw shooting in the end allowed the Cyclones to pick up the win on the road.
Percy Duncan led the way for Riverside with 18 points and nine rebounds while Kobe Davis added 12 points.
Axtell was led by Eli Broxterman with 10 points while Isaac Detweiler added nine points and nine rebounds.
Riverside improves to 6-7 with the win while Axtell dropped to 5-7 with the loss.
Up next for both, Riverside hosts Sabetha on Tuesday while Axtell goes on the road to face Doniphan West.
