Top 10 Moments of 2021: No. 6 - Sabetha Girls Basketball Reaches 3A State Title Game
By Brandon Tadtman

2021 has been a wild year from start to finish. We are blessed at Kanzaland Radio to cover some of the best athletes in the state.

We've tried our best to put together the Top 10 Moments of the 2021 year. We continue our countdown with #6.

The Sabetha girl's basketball team is the lone area team to make it all the way to a State Title game.

The Lady Bluejays advanced to the 3A State Championship game this year against Cheney after they defeated Hugoton in the Semi-Finals by scoring the final five points in the last eight seconds to win 57-55.

To reach the title game in their 13th straight winning season, Sabetha beat three straight ranked opponents in games that all came down to the wire including an overtime game and another that went double-overtime in the sub state championship against their rival.

Unfortunately, Sabetha would end up losing to Cheney in the Championship game 60-54 as they would end their season with a record of 23-3.

It was also the fourth time in the last five seasons that a Big 7 League team advanced all the way to a State Championship game and really five if you count heavy state favorite Nemaha Central wh owas in the state semifinals before Covid cancelled the remainder of the state tournament in 2020.
