Top 10 Moments of 2021: No. 8 - Multiple Area Basketball Teams Making Headlines and State Tournaments
By Brandon Tadtman

2021 has been a wild year from start to finish. We are blessed at Kanzaland Radio to cover some of the best athletes in the state.

We've tried our best to put together the Top 10 Moments of the 2021 year. We continue our countdown with #8.

Multiple area basketball teams making headlines and State Tournaments this year.

DONIPHAN WEST GIRLS (20-4)

The Doniphan West girls basketball team reached the Class 1A-DI State Tournament for the first time in school history after defeating Clifton Clyde in the Sub-State Final.

The Lady Mustangs won their first-round matchup in the State Tournament by beating Little River, but they ultimately lost in the Semi-Finals to Norwich 54-49.

Arguably the best season in school history, the D-West girls finished the season with a 20-4 record.

HOLTON BOYS (14-8)

The Holton boys basketball team went from a 5-win team two years ago, to a 14-win team this year with a trip to the Class 4A State Tournament.

The Wildcats picked up wins over Atchison and Wamego in the Sub-State round before losing to eventual State Champion, Bishop Miege in the Quarterfinal Round.

Quite the turnaround for the Wildcats from 2020 to 2021.

ROYAL VALLEY BOYS (20-4)

The Royal Valley boys basketball team advanced to their first ever State Tournament and that’s paired with back-to-back Big 7 League Titles to go along with it the past two seasons.

The Panthers finished the season with a 20-4 record after losing in the 3A Quarterfinal round to Rock Creek.

The Panthers were 41-6 the previous two seasons with their first ever trip to the State Tournament, this season they’re 5-0 at the break and a top five team in Class 3A.
