Centralia Girls Win Thriller, Nemaha Central Boys Cruise on Friday Night
By Brandon Tadtman

In a Big 7/Twin Valley League dual on Friday night, it was the Centralia girls and the Nemaha Central boys picking up victories.

GIRLS: Nemaha Central 39, Centralia 40

The Panthers improved to 2-0 with the win on Friday night as they had to battle from the jump. Trailing for most of the game it was freshman Oen Deters who came up with the big shot with a three pointer with under three seconds left which proved to be the difference.

The first quarter had a lot of points as Nemaha Central led 15-14 but both teams scored just six points in the second quarter for a 21-20 Thunder lead at halftime.

The low scoring continued in the third quarter as Nemaha Central outscored Centralia 6-2 to take a 27-22 lead in the fourth quarter.

However, Centralia rallied back and outscored the Thunder 18-12 in the fourth with Deters drilling the game winner to finish off her night with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Abbie Flentie added eight points and seven rebounds.

Nemaha Central was led by Addy Holthaus with 12 points and five rebounds. Taryn Ganstrom was also in double figures with 10 points and McKynsey Henry added nine.

Nemaha Central dropped their first and are now 2-1 overall.

BOYS: Nemaha Central 59, Centralia 32

The Nemaha Central Thunder cruised to a 3-0 record with their big win at Centralia on Friday night.

The Panthers jumped out to an early 8-2 lead but Nemaha Central battled back and took a 13-9 lead into the second quarter.

Thunder would outscore the Panthers 13-9 as well in the second quarter and held a 26-18 lead at halftime.

Nemaha Central turned it up a notch in the second half and outscored Centralia 33-14 to cruise to the victory.

Nemaha Central was once again led by the Beck twins with Marcus and Kurtis. Marcus led the way with 21 points and nine rebounds while his brother Kurtis added 20 points and five rebounds.

Panthers drop to 0-2 and were led by Brock Reinecke with eight points and eight rebounds. Colton Weyer and Marshall Tanking each added seven.

Up next for both on Tuesday: Nemaha Central hosts Hiawatha while Centralia travels to Onaga.
