The Jefferson County North Chargers will have the toughest possible test in all of Class 1A as they travel to top-ranked and undefeated Olpe on Friday night for a Sectional round playoff game.
Jefferson County North (7-2) defeated Troy last week 48-8 to advance to the Sectional round. It was the second time this season that JCN knocked off Troy as they also beat the Trojans in the regular season 22-12.
Caleb Worthington is our reigning athlete of the week after his performance last week. Worthington rushed for 127 yards on just 19 carries with three touchdowns.
The Chargers have won four straight games outscoring the opposition in those games 108-38.
JCN lost their season opener against Pleasant Ridge 24-22 and lost their only other game in week five against Centralia 20-6.
The defense has been the key for the Chargers all season long as they are giving up only 9.4 points per game and they have posted two shutouts. Five games total this season they have kept their opponents under 10 points.
Defense is also the calling card for the Chargers opponent on Friday night. The #1 ranked Olpe Eagles continue to soar after they defeated Jackson Heights last week 35-0.
It was the 21st straight win for Olpe as the defending State Champs have won 31 of their last 32 games since the start of the 2019 season.
Olpe’s defense has given up 12 points all season and that was in a 70-12 win against Lyndon in week three. Eight of their nine games have been shutouts and in total, have outscored their opponents this season 495-12 while their offense averages 55 points per game.
Jefferson County North and Olpe have played three times in the last two decades. Olpe is 3-0 with a 7-0 win in 2017, 49-7 in 2013, and 34-7 in 2012.
