The Kansas State High School Activities Association held an emergency board meeting Wednesday following the Board of Education’s 5-5 vote that ended Governor Laura Kelly’s Executive Order which would have delayed the start of grades K-12 from starting until after Labor Day.

The meeting was to set forth procedures for the 2020-21 fall sports season and the entire activities scheduled for the year.

In the meeting, KSHSAA’s board of the executives decided in conclusion to move forward with the August 17 date to start practices, but also acknowledged that more information is needed, and sports could still be pushed back.

The plan is to now survey superintendents to gather an idea on what schools are planning on doing to begin the school year.

There are still several questions to be answered, with KSHSAA saying that another meeting should take place in the next week, likely on Monday or Tuesday of next week.
