Perry Lecompton Boys Claim Valley Falls Tournament Championship

It took over a week, but the Valley Falls boys tournament wrapped up Wednesday night with the Perry Lecompton Kaws outlasting Jeff County North to claim the 2020 title 65-43.

The Kaws started fast jumping out to a 13-10 lead after one behind eight points from Billy Welch before taking control with a 19-11 second.

Jeff County North tried to battle back in the third quarter scoring 14 points, but Perry matched the Chargers with 14 points of their own to lead 46-35 going into the fourth.

The Kaws wrapped the game up with a 19-8 fourth led by Welch who scored six points in the frame including a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from the free throw line.

Welch led the Kaws with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the foul line while Parker Stone knocked down three triples to add 16 points.

In the loss Jeff County North was led by Ryan Feldkamp who scored 19 points while James Kramer added 10.

The win moves Perry Lecompton to 8-3 on the year while Jeff County North is now 7-4.

3rd Place Game: Valley Falls 50, Pleasant Ridge 43 (Overtime)

In the most thrilling game of the night Valley Falls battled back from a fourth quarter deficit to force overtime before grinding out a 50-43 win to claim third place.

The Dragons couldn’t have started any better jumping out to a 12-4 advantage after the first quarter behind Tyler Lockhart, Cooper Jepson and Nathan Hawk each scoring four in the quarter.

Pleasant Ridge got right back in the game with a 14-9 second quarter to trail by just three at the break before leading 32-27 going into the fourth after a 14-6 third.

Valley Falls was able to force overtime with a 14-9 fourth quarter behind six points from Lockhart before holding the Rams to just two points in the extra period.

Lockhart led the Dragons with 18 points while Nathan Hawk added 12.

Pleasant Ridge was led by Connor Gibson’s 17 points.

Valley Falls improved to 11-2 with the win while Pleasant Ridge is 7-4.
