The high school football regular season came to a close last week and with the playoffs set to begin Thursday the newest state rankings have been released which features six area teams.
In Class 3A the only ranked area team is the Marysville Bulldogs who sit at No. 3 with a 7-1 record after a 69-20 win at Hiawatha last week.
The Centralia Panthers continue to hold a spot in the top five in Class 1A after a 38-20 win over Valley Heights which pushed their record to 7-1 and the No. 4 ranking.
In 8-man DI the Clifton-Clyde Eagles continued to roll along last week with a 70-0 shutout of Lincoln to finish the regular season unbeaten for the second straight year and remain fifth in the rankings.
The final three ranked area teams come in 8-man DII with Axtell ranked second, Hanover third and Frankfort fourth with each team posting a 7-1 regular season. Axtell shutout Doniphan West 50-0 last week while Hanover beat Frankfort 52-34 in one of the top matchups across the state.
