Two of the top five teams in Class 3A who are just 45 minutes apart met in Sabetha for a huge clash of heavyweights. The last lost for the Bluejays was back in 2017 to the Thunder of Nemaha Central. This time a loaded Marysville Bulldogs team would look to upset the Bluejays and did just that with a 40-32 win, ending Sabetha's 23 game win streak.

The Bulldogs started the game on offense and drove 81 yards as Atreyau Hornbeak found the endzone for a 6-0 lead while Sabetha turned the ball over on downs on their first possession.

Marysville took advantage and drove 44 yards before Hornbeak would scamper in for a five-yard touchdown run to put the Bulldogs up 14-0. After a Sabetha three-and-out Hornbeak would once again find the endzone this time from two yards out to jump on top 20-0. Gabe Garber then drove the Bluejays down the field and ran in from a yard out to pull Sabetha within 20-7.

Sabetha then recovered an onside kick and a few plays later Gabe Garber found Kaden Dillon for a 48 yard passing touchdown to pull the Bluejays within a score. Brandon Schroedl then found Owen Neitfield for five-yard touchdown reception to put the Bulldogs up 26-13. Gabe Garber came right back and score his third touchdown of the night on a nine-yard run to pull the Bluejays within 26-20.

As they did all night Hornbreak and the Bulldogs came right back as the star senior scored once again giving Marysville a 34-20 lead. But again, Garber would find the endzone running in for a 21-yard touchdown to make it a 34-26 game. Hornbeak again had an answer coming right back and scoring for a fifth time to put the Bulldogs out in front 40-26. Garber capped off the scoring with his fourth rushing touchdown but the Bluejays simply ran out of time.

Sabetha would end the game with 324 total yards led by Gabe Garber who finished with 95 yards rushing and four touchdowns while he also threw for 172 yards and one score. Marysville would end the game with 418 total yards led by Atreyau Hornbeak who ended the game with 189 yards rushing and five touchdowns. Brandon Schroedl also ran for 116 yards and threw for 113 yards and one touchdown to Owen Neitfield. The Bulldogs go to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in District Play and will face-off against Wamego next week. Sabetha goes to 3-1 Overall and 0-1 in District Play and will face Hiawatha next Friday night.
