Maur Hill Claims Top Spots at Horton Boys Golf Invitational

Four area teams along with two others came together in Horton to tee it up for some boy’s golf action on Monday as Horton played host.

The Maur Hill-Mount Academy Ravens led the charge on the day as the Ravens had the top scores in three of the four competitions winning both the two-man and six-man team scores and also picking up an individual first place finish.

In the two-man competition the Ravens duo of Christian Wessel and Sam Sowers partnered for a score of 84 after individual rounds of 40 and 44, respectively. Wessel's round of 40 was the best individually on the day by three strokes and Sowers took fourth individually, while the two of them won the two-man competition by seven strokes. Onaga took second in the two-man action as Lucas Helget and Tyler Fleming partnered for a score of 91, shooting rounds of 47 and 44, respectively. Fleming took fifth individually, while Helget placed seventh. Atchison finished five strokes back of Onaga for third with a two-man score of 96, as Gabe Julo who shot a 43, good for the second best individual round of the day, partnered with Jase Nelson who posted a 53. St. Marys took fourth place with a two-man score of 104, Horton placed fifth with a 113 and Rossville sixth with a 131. For Horton the tandem of Cameron Smith and Rex Bruning accounted for their 113 with rounds of 53 and 60.

Rossville took home the four-man crown on the day winning by 10-strokes over Maur Hill who took second place, as Rossville notched a score of 196 and Maur Hill a 206. The team of Pat Sullivan (44), Canyon Miller (51), Riley Funk (55) and Isaac Hudrson (56) made up the Ravens foursome. Sullivan's 44, was good for third place individually on the day. St. Marys took third in the four-man competition with a 214, while Atchison and Horton placed fourth and fifth with scores of 245 and 269. For the Redman Dustin Goodman (55), Derek Thompson (56), Austin Ober (64) and Katelyn Truman (70) registered their four-man score. While for Horton it was Cole Bottom (61), Lane Rodvelt (62), Ryle Rodvelt (72) and Camryn Lowe (74) making up the Chargers four-man team score. 

Onaga did not have enough golfers for a four-man team but Jace Fischer, Ben Kufhal and James Johnson did compete on the day posting rounds of 50, 53 and 56, respectively. Fischer with his round of 50 earned tenth place individually.

Overall on the day in the six-man category the Ravens strung the best scores together to win by 29 strokes, while St. Mary's took second with a score of 319 and Rossville rounded out the Top three with a 327. Atchison and Horton finished fourth and fifth with scores of 341 and 382.
