ACCHS Wrestlers Take Fifth at Paola Tournament

It's been a pretty strong season on the mats for the ACCHS Tigers and that continued on Saturday at the Paola Tournament as the Tigers placed fifth out of 15 teams competing.

The Tigers registered 110.5 points, only one and half points out of fourth place. One other area team competed at the Paola Tournament also, as the Atchison Redmen grapplers finished 14th as a team. Prairie View took home first place with Columbus and Basehor Linwood finishing second and third, respectively.

Pacing the way on the mats for ACCHS was a second place performance by Dillon Weaver at 182lbs as he posted a 2-1 record. Weaver started the day with a bye and in the quarterfinals picked up the pinfall win in 1:55 to move into the semifinals. In the semifinals it was another pinfall win this time in 1:11 to advance to the Championship, were Weaver was pinned himself falling in 2:52 to take second place. A pair of Tigers took home third place finishes as Hunter Ostertag (120lbs) and Joey Landwehr (170lbs) both wrestled to bronze on the day. Ostertag posted a 3-1 record, picking up a 7-0 decision win in the quarterfinals, but falling in the semifinals, only to bounce back to win his next two matches by technical fall 17-2 and pinfall in just 19 seconds to take third. Landwehr also went 3-1 on the mats with a tight 6-4 decision win in the third place match and major decision win 16-8 and pinfall win in 43 seconds.

Six more Top eight finishes were garnered by ACCHS wrestlers on the day including a fourth place, two fifth place finishes, a sixth place and two seventh place finishes. Ryan Hanshaw (285lbs) took fourth place despite going 0-2 in action on the mats, while Bratten Forbes (220lbs) and Jacob Handke (195lbs) both notched fifth place finishes posting 2-1 and 3-2 records, respectively on the day. Behind a 2-3 record on the day Nick Hager (138lbs) earned a sixth place finish, while Mike Regan (160lbs) and Karl Scholz (106lbs) each took seventh place. Regan went 3-2 on the day on the mats for the Tigers.

Three Atchison Redmen took home Top eight finishes at the Paola Tournament as Dalton Armstrong lead the way placing third at 138lbs after going 4-1 on the mats. Armstrong registered two pinfall wins (1:06 and 1:12), a major decision win (8-0) and won with a 3-2 decision to take third. Andrew Adrian posted a 3-2 record on the mats earning himself fifth place at 120lbs, while Spencer Vice placed seventh at 132lbs after going 4-1, responding after a first round loss with four wins.

Atchison ready’s to hit the mat again on Thursday as they host a double dual, while ACCHS will take to the mats again on Saturday at the Junction City Invite.
