Hiawatha Girls & Pleasant Ridge Boys Teams Each Take Second at 3A State Cross Country

Full 2014 Class 3A State Cross Country Results -- (girls results) (boys results)

The Class 3A State cross country competition proved to produce the most top notch performances from the area with a pair of second place team performances and nine individuals in the Top 20, as they raced back on Friday at Rim Rock.

Hiawatha Red Hawk girls and Pleasant Ridge Ram boys both brought home second place team plaques, while the ACCHS girls placed fifth as a team and the Sabetha boys took seventh out of 12 teams.

Senior, Jordan Puvogel put up the best individual area showing racing her way to a fourth place showing behind a time of 15:55.80 helping lead the Hiawatha Red Hawk girls to their second place team performance. Molly Kettler, Aly Shamburg, Kailey Davis and Courtney Brockhoff all finished in the Top 40 for Hiawatha placing 31st, 36th, 39th and 40th, respectively, while Emma Wiliams ran to a 42nd place and Makena Gilpin placed 68th for Hiawatha. Brandt Houk competed in the boy’s race for Hiawatha and had the best area individual showing finishing fifth with a time of 17:27.70.

The Pleasant Ridge Rams raced their way to a second place boys’ team performance lead by Luke Oatney who finished ninth on the day with a time of 17:36.10. Tyler Darrow, Ronny Jarred and Dayton Flack notched 36th, 40th and 41st place finishes for the Rams, while Gabe Younger, Noah Tattershall and Clayton Price placed 54th, 61st and 64th, respectively. Kristina Silvers picked up a Top 20 finish in the girls race posting a time of 16:48.10 to place 19th.

Madison Bissell of ACCHS grabbed an eighth place showing in the girl’s race, notching a time of 16:14.00 to lead the lady Tigers. Rebekah Scholz was the only other Tiger to finish in the Top 40 placing 34th on the day. Mackenzie Forbes, Maddison Forbes, Caitlin Fuller and Erin Hamilton rounded out the lady Tigers team performance with finishes of 46th, 49th, 87th and 88th places, respectively.

The Nemaha Central Thunder picked up a pair of Top 20 finishers in the boys competition as Mikeal Sperfslage and Colin Lierz placed 14th and 20th, respectively with times of 17:45.00 and 18:00.80.

Sabetha Bluejays were led by sophomore, Keegan Cox who finished 18th with a time of 17:57.40 as the Bluejay boys finished seventh as a team. Corbin Cox tallied a 22nd place performance for the Bluejays, while Kellen Russell and Mitchell Lierz finished 78th and 79th. Tyler Huber and Nicholas Meyer also ran for the Bluejays notching 83rd and 88th place finishes, while Nathaniel Niehues finished 101st. Taryn Schuette was the only lady Bluejay to run and she placed 37th in the girl’s competition.

Marysville and Maur Hill-Mount Academy had just one runner each at the State competition. For Marysville the senior, Josef Smith raced his way to a seventh place finish behind a time of 17:35.60, while Maur Hill's Jack Siebert raced his way to a 43rd place finish.
