Centralia Panther Spikers Continue To Be on the Prowl as They Win the Valley Falls Volleyball Invite

As the volleyball season continues on and starts to hit the final stretch before postseason play later this month area teams continue regular season tournament action over the weekend and the Centralia Panthers continued to be on the prowl dominating their opponents on their way to another tournament title.

The Panthers took home first at the Valley Falls Invite as they went 6-0 on the day and won all their matches in straight sets against plenty of other area teams.

The action started off with pool play and in Pool "A" it was the Centralia winning the pool going 4-0, by beating McLouth (25-9, 25-6), Maranatha (25-9, 25-15), Jackson Heights (25-10, 25-8) and Doniphan West (25-11, 25-14). While, Maranatha took second in the pool by picking up wins over Jackson Heights (25-14, 25-11) and McLouth (25-9, 25-6) both in straight sets, but needed three sets to top Doniphan West (23-25, 25-12, 25-11). The Cobras of Jackson Heights picked up a pair of pool play wins beating McLouth (25-20, 25-13) in straight sets and Doniphan West in three sets (25-23, 21-25, 25-23). Giving Doniphan West and McLouth fourth and fifth in the pool as the Mustangs won the matchup against the Bulldogs in straight sets (25-11, 25-19).

In Pool "B" it was the host Valley Falls continuing their strong season by going 4-0 in pool play to win the pool. The Dragons picked up straight set wins over KC Christian (25-4, 25-4) and Oskaloosa (25-8, 25-17), while needing three sets to top Axtell (20-25, 25-21, 25-21) and Maur Hill-Mount Academy (19-25, 25-13, 25-6). The Axtell Eagles advanced out of Pool "B" to the Semifinals behind the Dragons after going 3-1 in pool action with wins over KC Christian (25-8, 25-18), Oskaloosa (26-24, 25-18) and Maur Hill (25-21, 16-25, 25-12). Maur Hill picked up a pair of wins in pool play to finish third in the pool as the Ravens beat KC Christian (25-9, 25-10) and Oskaloosa (23-25, 25-19, 25-13). Oskaloosa and KC Christian rounded out the Pool finishing fourth and fifth as the Bears beat KC Christian in three sets (21-25, 25-19, 25-15).

Moving to the Semifinals Centralia took on Axtell and Valley Falls squared off with Maranatha and it was the top two pool play teams getting straight set wins. The Panthers topped the Eagles 25-13, 25-12 while Valley Falls beat Maranatha 27-25, 25-20. Setting up Centralia and Valley Falls for the Championship, a matchup that went Centralia's way as the Panthers claimed the Valley Falls Invite title with a 25-13, 25-12 straight win over the Dragons.

In the third place matchup Maranatha got the best of Axtell to take third with a 25-14, 25-14 straight set win. While, Maur Hill claimed fifth place beating Jackson Heights in straight sets 25-23, 25-9. The battle for seventh and ninth both went three sets each as Doniphan West beat Oskaloosa for seventh (25-18, 22-25, 25-23) and McLouth topped KC Christian (27-25, 18-25, 25-22) to take ninth and pick up a win on the day.
