Tigers Run All Over West Franklin, Pick Up Second Win of The Season
By Jonny Kane

After dropping their last three games to tough Big 7 opponents, ACCHS welcomed the West Franklin Falcons out of Ponoma, Kansas to town, but didn't show great hospitality not letting the Falcons get anything going all night and coming away with a big 40-0 win on homecoming.

To begin the ballgame the Tigers took the opening kickoff and drove straight down the field and used tough runs to put the ball into the endzone for the first points of the homecoming game. Senior Joey Landwehr shouldered most of the load on the first drive for the Tigers and punched it into the endzone from 22 yards out and the extra point gave by Jesse Noll gave ACCHS the 7-0 lead early in the matchup.

West Franklin then received the football for their first drive of the evening but the Tiger defense stopped the Falcon offense before it could even get started forcing a three and out on their first possession.

The second possession was just like the first for ACCHS as they used another balanced rushing attack to move the ball down the field and punch it into the endzone on a Landwehr rush his second of the evening this time coming from 11 yards out to put the Tigers up 13-0 late in the first quarter.

The Falcons then got the ball back for their second drive of the ballgame and tried to use their rushing attack that they have used all season as they came into the game averaging 258 yards on the ground per game, but the ACCHS defense had none of it and forced another punt and after short kick the Tigers took over in Falcon territory.

This drive for the Tigers was a short one because on their first offensive play of the second quarter, Landwehr took the direct snap up the middle and to the house for a 50 yard touchdown giving him three scores in the first half and give ACCHS a 19-0 lead which they would take into the halftime.

Coming out of the break the Falcons would receive the opening kick and after a switch at the quarterback position they were able to put together a nice drive and get well into Tiger territory. The ACCHS defense continued to use the bend but don't break method and came up with a huge fourth down stop to force a turnover on downs and really kill any type of momentum that West Franklin had coming out of the break.

On their first possession of the second half the Tigers decided to move the ball via the pass and were able to find the endzone once again on a score by Landwehr this time coming on a 48 yard reception from quarterback Lane Bowen to put ACCHS on top four scores early into the third quarter.

It was then time for the Tiger defense to step up and make another big play as the Falcons moved their next drive into Tiger territory. On a crucial fourth down play West Franklin quarterback Trenton Worley dropped back to pass and was looking into the left flat, but Lane Bowen read his eyes and stepped in front for the interception to make another big play and give ACCHS the ball back early in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers would then score two more times in the ballgame on a two yard run by Ryan Vollmer and a 42 yard fumble return for a touchdown by Lane Bowen and ACCHS didn't give up any points on the evening and came away with their second win of the season in a big way 40-0.

In the win for ACCHS it was senior Joey Landwehr with another big game as the runningback carried the football 12 times for 178 yards and 3 scores and also had a receiving touchdown as well. For the Tigers they now have to quickly switch their attention to perhaps the toughest game on their schedule as they have Big 7 opponent Holton next week on the road.

For West Franklin they head back to the Flint Hills league 2-3 on the season and head into a tough matchup with Council Grove next week at home.
