Cross Country Teams From Big Seven, TVL & NEKL Compete At McLouth Invite

Several area teams from all three area leagues in the Big Seven, Twin Valley and Northeast Kansas competed at the McLouth cross country Invitational back on Thursday.

The McLouth boys’ team paced the way for the area with the best team performance claiming third place at their home Invitational, finishing behind Kansas City Christian East and Christ Prep, who finished first and second, respectively. Pleasant Ridge and Royal Valley boys rounded out the Top five finishes, placing fourth and fifth as teams. While the rest of the team finishes had Silver Lake take sixth, Jefferson County North place seventh, Valley Falls eighth, Jeff West ninth and Bishop Seabury finished 10th.

In the girl's race the Royal Valley Panthers put together best area team performance as they grabbed a fourth place showing. It was Christ Prep, KCC East and Silver Lake that took first, second and third, respectively in the girl’s race. While the remainder of the team finishes had Pleasant Ridge fifth, Jeff West sixth, McLouth seventh and Bishop Seabury eighth.

Individually it was sixth place finishes by Pleasant Ridge Ram, Luke Oatney and JCN Charger, Carissa McAfee that led the way for the area performances. As Oatney posted a time of 17:52.30 to place sixth in the boys race and McAfee notched a time of 17:06.81 to finish sixth.

Joining Oatney with a Top 20 finish for the Rams on the day was Gabe Younger who finished 10th with time of 18:12.02, while JCN also had two Top 20 finishers in the boys race as Brysen Weishaar and Ted Sharp finished 12th and 16th with times of 18:19.08 and 18:34.16.

Royal Valley finished the day with the most Top 20 finishers as four Panthers notched Top 20 finishes. Three of the four Top 20 finishes cam in the girl’s race as Kaytlyn Gooderl finished 10th behind a time of 17:34.24, while Katie Hanshaw and Tamo Thomas finished 15th and 20th, respectively with times of 17:47.38 and 18:22.66. In the boys race Kwaki Spoonhunter grabbed a 19th place finish after posting time of 18:38.24.

McLouth was led by Ryan Bristol on the day who placed seventh in the boys race after notching a time of 17:59.42. Bristol's teammate, Tristan Funk also finished in the Top 20, placing 14th with a time of 18:20.70.

Jeff West was the only other area team to have a Top 20 finisher at the McLouth Invitational as Makenzie Tucker finished seventh with a time of 17:08.75.

Troy, Doniphan West, Valley Falls and Riverside all also had runners at the McLouth Invitational on Thursday.
