The Nebraska School Activities Association Board of Directors has voted 7-1 in favor of keeping the high school wrestling championships in Omaha for the next five years.
The championships have been in Omaha since 2007 and will continue at the CenturyLink Center, which received the favorable vote due in large part to the venues’ ability to hold large staging and warm-up areas. Prior to Omaha winning the bid, the championships were held at the Devaney Center in Lincoln.
Pinnacle Bank Arena put in a bid to take over the championships.
CenturyLink Center’s seating capacity is 14,793 with ten mats on the floor, compared to 11,500 for Pinnacle. During the championship finals, when just four mats are used, CenturyLink bumps up to 15,600, compared with 14,300 in Lincoln.
