Nemaha Valley Boys & Girls Each Take Second at Silver Lake Track & Field Invite

The Nemaha Valley Raiders track squad started off the season with strong performances in their first meet of the year as the boys and girls both came home last week with a pair of second place performances as teams out of nine teams competing.

Boys finished with 84 total points taking second behind the host Silver Lake and finished 15 points ahead of third place team in Olpe. Raiders were spear headed by a pair of first place performances as Story Feldkamp took home first in the shot put behind a toss of 47'05 and Zach Bradley sprinted his way to first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.61. Bradley added to his day with a third place performance in the 110 meter hurdles, also while the Raiders had a second place finisher and four more third place performers, too. Colin Lierz ran his way to second place in the 800 meter run, while Isaac McWilliams and Mikeal Spearslage each took home third place in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, respectively. Raiders 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay teams raced their way to third place finishes, also.

On the girls side of competition the lady Raiders finished with 85.5 total points to take second, beating out the host Silver Lake by one and half point; both teams finished behind Marysville who won the meet with 121.5 points.

The girls were led by five top three performances on the day including a pair of first place finishes. Michaela Stallbaumer tossed her way to a win in the shot put behind a toss of 32'05, while Rachel Baumgartner took home first in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.25. Baumgartner's teammate, Heather Musgrove took third in the 100 meter hurdles, while Mikayla Peterson notched a pair of top three performances for the Raiders. Peterson took home second in the 800 meter run and grabbed third in the triple jump for the Raiders.

Marysville from the area also enjoyed a great meet as the girls took first place as a team with Rachel Heiman leading the way with a pair of first place finishes in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Claire Cudney also took home an individual first place in the high jump, while the Bulldogs girls relay teams swept the gold in the relay competitions. On the boys side the Bulldogs finished eighth out of nine teams, as Joe Smith was the top Bulldog on the day with his second place in the 1600 meter run.

It was a strong start to the season for the Raiders and they will took to build upon that when they host four fellow Big Seven teams tomorrow in a Big Seven quad.
