Seventeen Area Teams Remain Ranked in KBCA Rankings -- Feb. 16th

With only a couple weeks left in high school basketball regular season teams continue to try and set themselves up for seeding in sub-state action and fine tune things late in the season to find momentum for postseason play.

The latest KBCA rankings continues to house 17 area teams with some teams on the move this week in the polls.

Class 4A-Division II: 

Holton Wildcats continue to highlight the 4A-DII polls for the area teams as they have all season checking in at number seven for the girls this week and number four for the boys. The girls continue to move up the polls the last couple of weeks this week up two spots after improving to 11-6 this past week with wins over Riverside, Sabetha and Perry Lecompton. The boys also picked up wins against Riverside and Perry Lecompton last week but fell to Sabetha moving to 11-5 on the season and remained ranked fourth latest polls.

The Santa Fe Trail Charger girls continued to remain ranked at number two this week after beating Jeff West, ACCHS and Royal Valley last week to improve to 15-2 on the season.

Class 3A: 

Top two teams in the Big Seven on the boy’s side in Sabetha and Nemaha Valley both continue to be ranked in the 3A polls remaining at number three and six, respectively this week. The Bluejays continued to be undefeated on the season with a 3-0 week last week beating Riverside, Holton and Jeff West to improve to 17-0 on the season. For Nemaha Valley they stayed right behind Sabetha in the Big Seven standings with a 2-0 week beating Hiawatha and Perry Lecompton to improve to 15-1 on the season.

In the girls poll Marysville continued to be ranked checking in at number 10 this week again. The Bulldogs picked up a pair of wins over Rock Creek and Clay Center last week, but suffered a loss to Riley County moving to 13-4 on the season.

Class 2A:

The Lady Chargers of Jefferson County North continue to headline the polls in 2A, as they remained atop the perch of the girl’s poll ranked number one with an unblemished record this season. The Lady Chargers sit at 16-0 on the season after beating ACCHS and Immaculata this past week. The Washington County Tigers from the TVL also remained in the rankings but slipped to eighth falling three spots after suffering their second loss of the season falling to Valley Heights again. Tigers bounced back with a win over Onaga on Friday to move to 14-2 on the season.

In the boys poll the Valley Falls Dragons have been on the climb the last few weeks and that continued this week jumping up two spots all the way to number two in the polls after beating Maur Hill-Mount Academy and Oskaloosa last week to improve to 15-1 on the year.

Class 1A-Division I:

Five TVL teams continue to all remain ranked in the latest KBCA rankings in Class 1A-DII with two girl’s teams and three boys.

On the girl’s side the Valley Heights Mustangs moved to 16-1 on the season by beating ranked 2A school Washington County for the second time this season and topping Wetmore, also last week, to remain ranked second. Linn Bulldogs moved up one spot this week to number seven this week after moving to 11-4 last week with a win over Troy.

In the boys rankings Hanover, Valley Heights and Centralia continue remain ranked in that order but there was movement in their rankings this week. Hanover Wildcats moved to 14-3 on the season with wins over Frankfort and Wakefield but fell down to number three in the polls, this week. Valley Heights Mustangs stayed put at number four in the rankings after beating Wetmore and Washington County last week to move to 15-2 on the season. Centralia moved up one spot to number five this week as the Panthers pounced on Clifton-Clyde and Troy for wins last week to move to 12-4 on the season.

Class 1A-Division II: 

B&B Falcons continue to fly high with both the girls and boys teams in the rankings; as the girls remained atop the perch at number one and the boys jumped up two spots to number four this week. For the girls they took care of Axtell and Wetmore to move to 15-2 on the season, while the boys beat Wetmore and won a tough one against Axtell to move to 11-6 on the year.

The Axtell boys also continued to remain in the rankings moving to 11-6 on the season after a 1-1 week, beating Pawnee City and falling to B&B in a tough four-point loss. The Eagles remained ranked at number five this week in the latest polls.
