Since the day Scott Burger decided to become a basketball coach, all he has done is win games.  Whether it has been at the freshman or varsity levels, with the girls or the boys, Coach Burger has registered 478 wins against only 162 loses in his tenure at Sabetha High School.  In 30 years as basketball coach, Burger has had only three losing seasons, and two of those were 10-12 campaigns.  The win percentage is 71 percent and the average season has produced 18 victories.

Starting his career, Burger went 72-19 as the Sabetha boy’s freshman coach from 1984-1990 including three League Titles.  He went 226-57 in 12 years (1991-2002) with the Lady Bluejays with five Big 7 rings and four trips to the state tournament.  The Lady Jays were runner-up his first season in 1991 and again in 1996.  Sabetha placed third at state in 1995 and were undefeated state champs in 1997 in Class 4A.  Now in his 12th season with the Sabetha boys (180-86), he has won two more league titles and made the state tournament twice, including a second-place finish in 2009, most recently.

Earlier this year, Coach "Boog" eclipsed the 400 win plateau at the varsity level in a 74-33 victory against Rossville at the Burlington Invitational.  The Bluejay boys won that Tournament Championship, and have won everything so far this year, with a perfect 17-0 record.  In fact, besides a four-overtime victory at Holton, the Jays have won all of their contests by at least 9 points or more.  Entering Tuesday night's huge Big 7 League title game at rival Nemaha Valley (15-1), Burger is 406-143 as a varsity coach at Sabetha.

Humble but hard-working.  Strategic and sincere, but stern.  Coach Burger will tell you he has had a lot of great atheltes that have led to his tremendous coaching success.  But around Sabetha and throughout Northeast Kansas, fans know there are very few coaches that can bring a group together -get them to compete as hard- and play their best as a team with the success that Burger has demonstrated.  Kanzaland Radio and MSC Sports.net congratulates Coach Scott Burger for soaring past the 400-win mark as a high school varsity basketball coach this season.
