Bluejays Tame Tigers - Stay Unbeaten in Big 7

Playing at home for the second night in a row Friday, both Sabetha basketball teams dominated Jeff West to remain undefeated in Big 7 League play.  

GIRLS = Sabetha 52, Jeff West 28
The Lady Jays bounced back from a 53-40 loss to Holton the night before and took off after an 8-4 first quarter.  Sabetha outscored Jeff West in each frame and led 22-11 at halftime.  Taryn Schuette hit a trio of three-pointers in the first half and finished with four treys for 12 points.  Alexis McAfee led the Lady Jays with 19 points including a few trifecta's and four perfect free throws.  Toss in a handful of rebounds plus a few steals and assists and McAfee earned "Player to Bank On" honors from the Citizens State Bank and Trust Company in Hiawatha.  Sabetha had 9 total players score improving to 10-0 in league play and 13-4 overall.  They have two huge games next week at Nemaha Valley and Santa Fe Trail.  Olivia Brees scored all 10 of her points in the second half and Taylor Metzger added 8 before the Tigers dropped to 4-12 on the season and 2-7 in Big 7 play with their fourth straight loss.  

BOYS = Sabetha 80, Jeff West 50
The Bluejays boys continued to shoot lights-out while they had 10 players score in another route.  Leading 16-10 after one period, Sabetha went on a 9-0 to begin the second and put the game into double-digits for the rest of the night.  Sabetha led 46-23 at the break following a 30-point second quarter and finished the game making 9 treys and also 19 of 23 free throws in their highest scoring contest of the year.  Gaven Schumann scored 19 points while Kellen Russell was the Citizens State Bank and Trust Company "Player to Bank On" with 17 points, including five triples.  Brett Plattner added 12 and Jacob Frey scored 10 as Sabetha improved to 17-0 on the season and all their wins have been by 9 or more points except one 4 overtime victory at Holton. Andrew Myers came off the Jeff West bench and hit four treys to finish with a team-high 14 points while Ian Mullins chipped in 12 and Jacob Dickey added 9.  The Tigers drop to 7-9 overall and 4-5 in the league with three of their final four games against the teams in Jeff West 4A Sub-State.
