Three Area Teams & 23 Individuals Remain Ranked in Latest KWCA Rankings - Feb. 11th

The wrestling season is hitting the final stretch before regionals with league tournaments and final tourneys of the year looming and teams and wrestlers are looking to set themselves up for a chance to earn a spot at the State tournament. The KWCA has released its latest set of rankings and three area teams and 23 individuals continue to remain ranked in the latest polls.

In Class 4A the Holton Wildcats continues to be the cream of the crop as they remain number one as a team in the rankings as they have all season. Wildcats have been led by multiple wrestlers all season and the six wrestlers in the rankings have been staples in the polls all season. Senior, Cooper Zeller and sophomore, Jonah Lutz continue to lead the way as they are ranked second in their weight classes of 285lbs and 132lbs, respectively. While senior, Andrew Rieschick and junior, Lucas Lovvorn both remained ranked third this week at 160lbs and 152lbs and Holton sophomore, Justin Rieschick continue to check in at number four in the polls at 138lbs.

Jeff West and Atchison both have had a wrestler ranked all season and that trend continued this week again as the Tigers grappler Justin Scott continues to remain unbeaten on the season and ranked number one at 285lbs. For Atchison senior, Tyler Harris continues to check in the top six of his weight class, remaining ranked at number three this week in the polls.

In Class 3-2-1A all the area wrestlers ranked last week remained steadfast in their rankings this week, while the only movement that happened in the team rankings for area teams as ACCHS moved up one spot this week to number four, while Marysville remained ranked ninth in the team rankings.

The Tigers of ACCHS continue to have a quartet in the rankings led by junior, Logan Bowen who remained ranked second at 132lbs, while senior, Scott Birkinsha continued to check in at number three at 170lbs in the latest polls. Senior, Justin Wagner and freshman, Hunter Ostertag both remained ranked at number four in the weight classes of 152lbs and 106lbs, respectively for the Tigers.

For Marysville they are led by junior, Josh Nelson who remained ranked second at 160lbs this week, while senior, Casey Hilton remained ranked fourth at 220lbs and sophomore, Chris Deters continues to remain ranked sixth at 113lbs.

The Doniphan West Mustangs have enjoyed plenty of success on the mats this season and three Mustang grapplers continue to be ranked. Troy's Tristan Speer who wrestles with Doniphan West continues to dominate his opponents and remains ranked number one at 195lbs. His teammates, Garret Dunlap and Trevor Fee both continue to remain ranked at 160lbs and 170lbs, respectively checking in at number three and six in the latest rankings.

Sabetha, Onaga, Centralia and Riverside all continue to have wrestlers in the rankings. For the Bluejays junior, Jacob Leuthold and senior, Michael Baumgartner both remain ranked checking in at number four and five at the weight classes of 285lbs and 170lbs, respectively. Centralia Panther grappler, Andrew Beck continues to hold down a top six spot at 152lbs ranking third this week again, while his teammate from Onaga in junior, Dustin Blow checks in at number six again this week at 195lbs. Riverside Cyclone senior, Cody Walker continues to hold down the top spot at 220lbs this season.

The wrestling regular season will close for many this weekend and then teams and grapplers will turn their attention to the postseason action on the mats coming in the weeks to come.
