TVL Basketball Tournament -- Consolation Pool Games on Tuesday

The Twin Valley League tournament continued on Tuesday night with the consolation pool games starting up for the teams that suffered losses in the opening round of the tournament.

Girls

#12 Onaga vs. #8 Troy      (Troy won 47-33)

It was a rematch of a matchup just a week ago as Troy Trojans took on the Onaga Buffalos again this season this time on a neutral court at Washington County high school in the TVL tourney. The outcome proved to be the same as the first meeting this year a Troy win but the Onaga Buffalos hung tuff in the contest, following only 47-33. Troy started off the game with a 12-3 first quarter and that proved to be too much of a hole for Onaga to overcome. Troy Trojans with the win improved to 5-6 on the season with the win as they were led by Baileigh Jenkins who scored 18 and Breanna Smith chipped in 10 points. Onaga with the loss falls to 2-8 on the season and was led by Jocelyn Marten who scored nine points.

#14 Blue Valley-Randolph vs. #13 Frankfort      (Frankfort won 42-31)

It was a slow start to the game by both teams but the Lady Wildcats of Frankfort battled past Blue Valley-Randolph for their second win of the season notching the 42-31 win. Frankfort led 18-11 at the half and got the offense moving along better in the second half to close the game out with a 15-9 fourth quarter. Wildcats in the win was led by senior, Ashley Joseph who scored 12 points, while Maura Kennedy and Abra Shirley each chipped eight points helping Frankfort improve to 2-8 on the season. Blue Valley in the loss falls to 0-11 on the season and was led by Tess Henry and Monique Sandquist who each posted nine points in the loss.

#11 Clifton-Clyde vs. #7 Doniphan West      (Doniphan West won 39-38)

It was another thrilling matchup in the TVL tournament as the Mustangs of Doniphan West and the Eagles of Clifton-Clyde traded leads multiple times in the consolation game and ultimately the Mustangs reigned victorious with a 39-38 win. Doniphan West led 12-9 after the first quarter by a 9-4 second quarter by Clifton-Clyde had the Eagles up 18-16 at the half. Clifton-Clyde added to that lead as they held a six point advantage going into the fourth quarter, but Doniphan West closed the game with a 16-9 fourth and earned the win. Mustangs moved to 5-6 on the season with the win and was led by Regan Gibson who posted 18 points. In the loss the Eagles were led by the trio of Elizabeth Nobert, Taylor Seifert and Kourtni Hubert who each scored 11 points on the night, as Clifton-Clyde with the loss fell to 3-8 on the season.

Boys

#12 Wetmore vs. #9 Washington County    (Washington County won 55-41)

The lead traded hands in the first half between Wetmore and Washington County in this TVL consolation pool game, but despite leading 13-10 after the first quarter and 25-23 at the half, Wetmore fell 55-41 to Washington County. The Tigers used a 32-16 second half to shoot past Wetmore with Kyle McGatlin leading the charge posting 17 points on the night. Washington County also got double figures from Andrew Tiemeyer who added 12 points for the Tigers who with the win improved to 6-6 on the season. Wetmore in the loss was led by Jemery Hoelscher who tallied 14 points and Dustin Boeckman added 12 points, as the Cardinals fell to 2-9 on the year with the loss.

#14 Blue Valley-Randolph vs. #13 Frankfort     (Blue Valley-Randolph won 46-43)

It was the third overtime game of the tournament as Frankfort and Blue Valley-Randolph needed an extra period to decide the win as the Rams outscored the Wildcats 5-2 in the overtime period to win 46-43. Frankfort lead by one after the first quarter but Blue Valley took the lead into the half behind an 11-3 second quarter, leading 24-17. Frankfort regained the lead by one after a 15-7 third quarter, but the Rams answered to force overtime and ultimately grab the win. Blue Valley with the win moved to 2-9 on the season behind 17 points by Zach Rootring and 13 points by Marshall Carey. Frankfort in the loss falls to 1-9 on the season and was led by Lucas Adams who posted 18 points, while Jacob Studer chipped in 12 points.

#11 Clifton-Clyde vs. #10 Doniphan West     (Clifton-Clyde won 70-60)

A quick start to the game by Clifton-Clyde as they lead 22-12 after the first quarter proved to be enough of a margin for the Eagles to down the Mustangs of Doniphan West for the 70-60 win. Doniphan West cut the lead to four at the half but could never ultimately get over the hump in the game. Clifton-Clyde Eagle Caleb Gelino poured in 28 points to lead his team on the night while, William Ohlde added 17 points and Nick Kennedy scored 14 points. Clifton-Clyde with the win moved to 4-7 on the season, while sending Doniphan West to 4-7 on the year with the loss. The Mustangs on the night were led by Jeff Watts who posted 20 points, while Luke Rush chipped in 14 points.
