Holton Wrestling Ties for Eighth at Newton Tournament of Champions

Holton Wildcats looking to take on the challenge of top flight competition again this season took to the mats on Saturday partaking in the Newton Tournament of Champions.

Dominating opponents all season the Wildcats took on plenty of top flight opponents in Newton with many bigger schools and came away with a tie for eighth place out of 27 teams competing posting 101 total points. Five Wildcats placed in the top eight on the day as Holton registered two second, one third and two seventh place finishes on the day.

Cooper Zeller (285lbs) paced the way for Holton posting a second place performance going 4-1 and falling in the championship bout by a close 4-2 decision. Zeller's wins on the day included a sudden victory, two pinfall wins and a bye. While Andrew Rieschick 160lbs) also placed second going 4-1 on the day with three pinfall wins and another win via decision, but fell in the championship in a tight 3-2 decision.

Jonah Lutz (132lbs) registered a third place performance going 5-1 on the day; he opened the day 3-0 before falling the semifinals and then winning his final two matches to take third place. Lutz posted three pinfall wins, a win via bye and won the third place match by decision (4-3).

Both Justin Rieschick (138lbs) and Lucas Lovvorn (152lbs) each notched seventh place performances going 4-2 and 5-2, respectively on the day’s action.

Several other Wildcats on the day posted at least a pair of wins in competition as Jameson Lutz (106lbs), Tyler Price (113lbs), Justin Pool (126lbs), Mason Baum (170lbs) and Bradley Hooper (220lbs) all each registered two wins or more.

Holton looks to continue their success this Thursday as the head to Effingham to wrestler in the ACCHS Quad.
