Jeff West Headlines Area Performances at Wabaunsee Wrestling Invitational

Many area wrestlers took to the mat over the weekend at the Wabaunsee Invitational with 20 top six placers on the day from area schools.

It was the Jeff West Tigers leading the charge for the area performances as the Tigers took home fifth place as a team out of 19 squads competiting in action at the Wabaunsee Invitational. Jeff West on the day was led by a pair of top flight performers in Josiah Dowding (170lbs) and Justin Scott (285lbs) who each took home first place. Dowding posted a 4-0 day with a bye, pinfall win (1:32) and a pair tight wins via decision. Scott joined his fellow Tiger grappler with a perfect record on the day going 4-0 with a bye and three pinfall wins in 39, 16 and 22 seconds.

Tigers top performers didn't stop there as Nathan Holloman (126lbs) and Tucker Schreiner (120lbs) each registered third place performances by each going 4-1 on the day. Jeff West wrestlers also posted a fourth, two fifth and two sixth place finishes on the mats at the Wabaunsee Invitational. Sma Shenk (195lbs) took home a fourth place finish, Ryan Wisner (132lbs) and Kilian Norton (285lbs) each placed fifth and Jesse Best (145lbs) and RJ Edwards (220lbs) both took home sixth place.

The Pleasant Ridge Rams took home the second highest teams finish for area teams on the day placing eighth out of 19 teams. Logan McKinney speared headed the Rams performances on the mats placing second at 220lbs, after going 3-1 with a win via forfeit and pair of pinfall wins before falling by decision in the championship bout. His teammates added a pair of fifth place finishes and a sixth place on the day as Blake Graham (126lbs) and Colton Doty (195lbs) each took fifth and Brandon Broddle (120lbs) placed sixth.

Royal Valley Panthers took home 12th out of 19 teams but had some of their wrestlers competiting at the Bobcat Classic also on Saturday. At the Wabaunsee Invitational it was Charles Todd leading the Panthers with a second place showing at 285lbs going 3-1 with a pair of pinfall wins and a 3-1 decision before falling to the number one guy in the state from Jeff West, Justin Scott in the championship bout. Noah Hart took home the bronze for the Panthers as 138lbs by posting a 4-1 record, while Jerry Coan (113lbs) notched a fifth place and Matthew Bailey (182lbs) added a sixth place showing.

Immaculata picked up a pair of fourth place performances on the day as the team placed 14th of 19 squads. Bruce Stanley (152lbs) and Max Campbell (160lbs) each placed fourth in their weight classes.

Hiawatha/Horton was led by Keenan Hinton (195lbs) who placed sixth place as the Hiawatha/Horton placed 18th as a team on the day.

Overall the Jeff West Tigers enjoyed the top day from the area teams at the Wabaunsee Invitational but many other area teams enjoyed some great performances.
